I love to snack. I mean, who doesn't right? Snacking is a great way to tame the hunger pangs, treat yourself between meals, and even enjoy a little sweet or salty pick-me-up when you're just feeling like a little "sumthin' sumthin" for no good reason. Now we all know that there are good snacks (fruits, veggies and hummus, nuts, seeds, etc.) and there are bad snacks (chips, cookies, processed "only 100 calories" packages of chemical nastiness, etc.). Many of us, myself included, tend to reach for those bad snacks when dealing with some knarly hunger pangs because those snacks are super quick and super easy (hey, just pop open the bag or box and proceed to stuff in your face right?). But those snacks never stand by us for long and do nothing to fuel us with the stuff that our bodies are REALLY asking for during those "hangry" moments.
Here we are at the start of May and what a perfect time to talk about sending some well deserved love to our liver! Our liver is our largest organ (after our skin of course) and it works 24-7, 365 days a year carrying out 500 critical metabolic and detoxification processes for our body so that we can keep on keepin' calm about all that life has to throw our way. But sadly, we continually use and abuse the poor lady (yes, in my world the liver is a lady ~ because multitasking!) through the foods we eat, the air we breathe, the environmental toxins we are exposed to, both inside and outside of our homes, and even our negative emotions. So let's take a look at my five favourite foods to support the liver so we can show her some love and help keep her running like a charm.
